Who says you can’t go home? On Wednesday night, the Boston Red Sox re-acquired Jackie Bradley Jr. in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Red Sox are sending Hunter Renfroe to the Brewers in exchange for Bradley, David Hamilton and Alex Binelas. The official terms of the deal were announced late on Wednesday.

Renfroe had a strong season with the Red Sox in 2021, hitting .259 with 31 home runs and 96 RBI. It was by far the best season he’s had in the MLB.

Bradley, meanwhile, struggled on the Brewers. He finished the 2021 season with a .163 average, six home runs and 29 RBI. That’s not what the Brewers were expecting out of him when they signed him to a two-year, $24 million contract in March.

Perhaps a return to Boston will rejuvenate Bradley. During his eight-year stint with the franchise, he had a .239 average with 98 home runs and 376 RBI.

Bradley has never been a dominant hitter, albeit he usually saves his best performances for the playoffs. In 2018, he was named the MVP of the ALCS.

While there are probably some Red Sox fans questioning why the front office would give away Renfroe after the year he just had, there are plenty of fans excited to see Bradley at Fenway Park once again.
