Several TV series and movies recently wrapped production in North Carolina and are now available for viewing — just in time for your summer binge-watching and movie-going needs.

Whether you’re looking for a summer romance, supernatural horror, intense fishing expeditions or other genres, the productions appeal to a wide range of tastes and preferences and showcase the varied landscapes and places of the state.

To help you narrow down your choices for which projects to watch first, we’ve compiled information on several productions’ plots, plus information on where you can find them for online streaming and other viewing options. We’ve also included information on where each project was filmed and how you can see some of the real-life locations in person.

How to stream ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ series

What it’s about: This summer romance series is based on the trilogy of books by the same name by author Jenny Han. The “multigenerational,” coming-of-age drama “hinges on a love triangle between one girl and two brothers, the ever-evolving relationship between mothers and their children, and the enduring power of strong female friendship,” Amazon’s description of the project reads. The story explores “first love, first heartbreak, and the magic of that one perfect summer.”

How to watch: The first season premiered on June 17 and is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

NC location info: Filming for “The Summer I Turned Pretty” took place in the Wilmington area, with some scenes showing locations in Fort Fisher and Southport as well. In one early scene in the series, Southport’s Provision Company restaurant is shown in the background, while other scenes show the rocks lining the shore at Fort Fisher. Design magazine House Beautiful reports that the main house featured in the series is a real house in Wilmington. The Wilmington Star-News reports that other filming locations include the private Cape Fear Country Club, as well as several Wilmington shops, such as “upscale women’s store” Monkees, and restaurants, such as the Pilot House.

How to watch ‘Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks’

What it’s about: The “Wicked Tuna” series has been airing for several years and is beginning its ninth season on the National Geographic channel. It’s a reality series that shows real-life tuna fishermen battling it out to catch the most fish in the waters of the Outer Banks. The most recent season, which premiered July 17, features the top fishing captains from Gloucester, Massachusetts, returning to the Outer Banks to battle their Southern rivals.

How to watch: The current season of “Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks” airs Sunday nights on the National Geographic channel. If you want to catch up on past seasons, they’re available for streaming on Disney+.

How to stream ‘Along for the Ride’ film

What it’s about: Based on the bestselling 2009 novel by Chapel Hill author Sarah Dessen, “Along for the Ride” is a film that focuses on 18-year-old Auden West, who spends the summer before she starts college in the small, seaside town of Colby — a fictional North Carolina town that Dessen says is based on Emerald Isle. While in Colby, Auden meets the “mysterious” Eli, who, on nightly quests, “helps her experience the carefree teen life she was missing.” The star-studded cast includes Kate Bosworth, Andie MacDowell and Dermot Mulroney.

How to watch: The film premiered on May 6 and is available to stream on Netflix.

NC location info: Filming for “Along for the Ride” took place in the Wilmington area. Specific filming locations include the New Hanover County courthouse, the Carolina Beach boardwalk, Jungle Rapids Family Fun Park and Kure Beach, among others. How to watch ‘The Black Phone’ movie

What it’s about: “The Black Phone” is a horror thriller film based on the 2004 short story of the same name. The film, with a cast that includes four-time Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke, focuses on a 13-year-old boy who is “abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use,” the film’s description reads. “When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.”

How to watch: “The Black Phone” was released in theaters on June 24. Catch it in theaters, or stream it on demand for a fee on platforms including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV or YouTube.

NC location info: Filming for “The Black Phone” took place in the Wilmington area. The Wilmington Star-News reports that filming was based at the EUE/Screen Gems studio there, though some shots in neighborhoods near the studio are included.

How to stream ‘Delilah’ series

What it’s about: “Delilah” is a fictional legal drama by the OWN Network that centers around Delilah Connolly, a Charlotte lawyer who “left a demanding white-shoe law firm a decade ago and hung up her own shingle so she could make raising her kids her number one priority.” Now, Delilah “takes on cases the big firms ignores and finds herself, more often than not, going head-to-head with the powerful and privileged as she fights for the disenfranchised.”

How to watch: The first season of “Delilah” premiered on March 9. The first episode is available to watch for free on YouTube at youtu.be/RluWBaBVONA. The series is also available on fuboTV, a streaming service.

NC location info: Filming took place in the Charlotte area. Glimpses of the Charlotte skyline are included at the beginning of the first episode.

How to stream ‘Welcome to Flatch’ series

What it’s about: “Welcome to Flatch” is a mockumentary comedy series with half-hour episodes. “When a documentary crew sets out to explore the lives of residents in a small American town — their dreams, their concerns — they stumble upon the midwestern town of Flatch, which is made up of many eccentric personalities,” the show’s synopsis reads. “It’s a place you want to visit and maybe even stay. If there was a decent motel. Which there is not.”

How to watch: The first season premiered on March 17 and is available to stream online at fox.com/welcome-to-flatch by signing in with your TV provider. It’s also available on Hulu, fuboTV, YouTube TV and Sling TV with subscriptions to those services.

NC location info: The show was filmed in the Wilmington area. According to the Wilmington Star-News, filming locations include downtown Wilmington, much of Burgaw in Pender County and Wallace in Duplin County. Watch for scenes of downtown Burgaw and the town’s parks, plus the “backroads” of Pender County.

How to stream ‘Hightown’ series

What it’s about: “Hightown” is a crime drama series that follows a National Marine Fisheries Service agent and her “journey to sobriety, overshadowed by an unfolding murder investigation.” The series is set in “beautiful but bleak Cape Cod.”

How to watch: “Hightown” is a Starz series and is available for streaming on that platform.

NC location info: Season 2 of “Hightown” was filmed in the Wilmington area, after the first season was filmed in Cape Cod and New York. The Wilmington Star-News reports that filming locations include St. Mary Catholic School, the Hanover Seaside Club, the Oceanic restaurant and Crystal Pier at Wrightsville Beach. The N.C. Film Office reports that Season 3 of the series is currently filming in the Wilmington area.

How to stream ‘Our Kind of People’ series

What it’s about: Based on the novel by the same name, “Our Kind of People” follows the story of “a strong-willed, single mom as she sets out to reclaim her family’s name and make an impact with her revolutionary haircare line that highlights the innate, natural beauty of Black women,” the show’s description reads. “But she soon discovers a dark secret about her own mother’s past that will turn her world upside-down and shake up this community forever.” FOX describes the series as “a soapy, thrilling exploration of race and class in America and an unapologetic celebration of Black resilience and achievement.”

How to watch: “Our Kind of People” is a FOX series and is available to stream online at fox.com/our-kind-of-people (some episodes are locked and require you to sign in with your TV provider, while some are free). The series is also available on Hulu, fuboTV, YouTube TV and Sling TV with subscriptions to those services.
