Recalls from listeria outbreak now hit Costco, Trader Joe’s, H-E-B and Albertsons

Sauces sold at three of the nation’s top seven grocery sellers, chip dip sold at Costco stores in 13 states and Trader Joe’s store brand products got swept off the shelves Wednesday and Thursday in ripple recalls on listeria concerns.

All the products use ingredients from Rizo-López Foods. After the FDA found listeria at Rizo’s Modesto, California, facility, the company made an everybody-out-of-the-pool recall Tuesday of dairy products made there.

But Rizo also supplies ingredients for other companies’ products. If an ingredient supplier’s facility has a listeria problem, then each of the supplier’s customers could have a listeria problem. That’s when you see the second wave of recalls rippling out from the main recall.
