Ready for Hire focuses on community service and skill development
The Ready for Hire program has wrapped up another successful year — marked by community service, safety education and a final-day celebration.
This summer, participants completed a volunteer project at Gorman Nature Center. The students dug 6 inches of dirt from around newly installed benches, ensuring visitors are able to swing their feet while seated comfortably, and trimmed back overgrown trails.
In addition to their volunteer efforts, the Ready for Hire participants received crucial fire safety training from the Mansfield Fire Department. The fire safety session covered the R.A.C.E. (Remove, Alert, Confine, Extinguish) and P.A.S.S. (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep) techniques essential for managing fire emergencies. Students practiced extinguishing a simulated fire and had the opportunity to explore fire trucks, gaining practical knowledge and an appreciation for the work of first responders.
The program concluded with a visit to the Columbus Zoo, where participants celebrated their achievements, engaged in interactive exhibits and even had the chance to feed the giraffes.
