Three Secrets to Easy, Sexy Waves

Three Secrets to Easy, Sexy Waves

There's nothing sexier than the relaxed style of just-emerged-from-the-ocean, beachy waves like Kate Hudson's. While achieving this effortless-looking style might seem daunting, we've found three easy methods for creating the perfect tousled beach waves when there's no salt or sand in sight. The best part? Each trick takes no less than ten minutes, including blow-dry time. Read on for our three secrets to easy, sexy waves.

It might seem counterproductive to make waves with a straightener, but trust us – this works. First, divide your hair into two sections. Next, twist each section with your fingers and secure with a hair tie. Run the flat iron over both of the twists a few times, untie them, and voila – instant beach waves!

If you haven't already caught on to the latest hair obsession (re: the sock bun), follow this tutorial for a quick update. When you sleep with it in, your hair will be all waves in the morning. Cut the toe off of an old tube sock, and then roll it into the shape of a donut. Make a ponytail and then pull it through the hole in the sock donut, then spread your hair around the rest of the sock. Roll the sock down over your hair, then tuck in any remaining ends to make sure the sock completely covers all of it. Next, hit the hay with the sock bun securely fastened, and you'll wake up in the morning to gorgeous waves.

This last tip is the easiest of the three. Find a salt spray like Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray or Not Your Mother's Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray. Salt sprays create that beachy texture that comes from, duh – salt water! Start when your hair is damp and mist the spray liberally throughout your hair, including the roots and midsection. Work your fingers through until you get to the tips. If you have super-dry or coarse hair, prevent frizz with a curl cream like Organix Defining Cream, Moroccan Curling Perfection. Finally, scrunch the ends and blow-dry with a diffuser or just let it air-dry. You'll be left with a natural, tousled texture.
