How to get that sleek Proenza-esque hair for winter

Sleek, glossy, just-out-of-the-shower hair is so chic and of the moment. Just look back to the Spring '15 shows-Marni, Prada, Proenza Schouler, you name it-and you'll see just how amazing the slick hair trend really is. The easiest way to get this look is to simply take a shower and let you hair air dry throughout the day. The only problem is it's a little difficult to rock wet hair on a chilly winter day. Your lovely locks will actually freeze (trust me, I've tried it). So what's a girl to do? Although warm temperatures are a thing of the past, and you can't actually step outside with dripping wet hair and not shiver like crazy, there are still ways to achieve the slippery and smooth look while staying dry and warm.

Luckily, this look is extremely easy to create, and perfect for going from day to night. (NYE, anyone?) I think it looks so cute during the day with wintery layers, and goes great with a simple LBD for a night out. Pair it with clean skin, bold brows, and a plump, moisturized lip and you'll be all set.

Here's how to get the look:
Start with straight blow-dried hair with a deep side part. Prep the hair with a texturing spray that makes your strands slightly piecey. I like something with a saltwater element like Lavett & Chin's Sea Salt Texturing Mist. It makes hair feel beachy and lively. Spray at your roots and on your ends, so your hair will maintain its sleek shape.

Next, you'll need to apply a product that adds the wet vibe. Use a wax, pomade, or gel (I like Rahua's Hair Wax) to sleekify your mane. Saturate the hair from the roots down to the strands that tuck behind your ears. Continue to add product near your ends, but choose a few strands to leave out so the style looks natural. After applying one 'coat' of product, comb through to make the hair lay flat. You can add more product if you want more drama. You can also leave your hair tucked behind your ears to keep things looking effortless.

To ensure that everything stays in place, use a bit of hairspray. Oribe Impermeable Anti-Humidity Spray is perfect because it protects against all weather conditions (wind is the worst enemy of this style!). To finish, spray a little more saltwater spray on the ends and you're ready to go!
