Get a sneak peek at the first, inevitable 'Scandal' clothing line
Few mainstream TV shows have garnered as much attention for their wardrobes as "Scandal." Leading lady Olivia Pope, played brilliantly by Kerry Washington, has garnered die-hard fans who love not only her no-nonsense personality, but also her style -- many who perhaps wish they could incorporate some of Olivia Pope's badass-ness into their work clothes. And now they can.
ABC, Kerry Washington and "Scandal" costume designer Lyn Paolo have partnered with mall chain The Limited on a collection inspired by the Shonda Rhimes drama and Pope's aesthetic, specifically. It's pretty unusual for a show's lead actor to be a part of such a collaboration but, as Paolo has told us, Washington is obsessed with fashion and plays a big role in the creation of her character's look, which hinges on cream and neutral-colored wide-leg pants, feminine yet confident blouses and statement-making belted coats.
Most of Pope's wardrobe comes in at a pretty high or "aspirational" price point -- Paolo pulls a lot of Armani and Valentino -- and "Scandal"'s first fashion collaboration was with luxury department store Saks Fifth Avenue on a window display. But with The Limited collection, the Olivia Pope aesthetic becomes more widely accessible. Expect affordable versions of her signatures, including a plaid round collar cape, priced between $49 and $250.
The collection will bow in The Limited stores and online in late September, just in time for the show's fourth season.
