Gabrielle Union gives us her best relationship advice
Guest editor Gabrielle Union's latest flick, Think Like a Man Too, has us taking advice yet again from Steve Harvey's relationship playbook, Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man. With Gabrielle's impending nuptials this summer, we though there'd be no one better to give us her ultimate relationship advice. Read on for our Q&A.
StyleList: What's the best piece of advice you've gotten from Steve Harvey's book? Would you ever use any of the tips in real life?
Gabrielle Union: "I think the book is basically offering tips that are in a comic sense. I am a basically reasonable person, so I have been using these tips my whole life. The best advice I have been given is no one has all of the answers. Listen to your gut and be yourself."
SL: What does "thinking like a man" really mean, anyway?
GU: "It really means use common sense. I think men and women both suffer from this. It doesn't mean think like a man, it means use common sense."
SL: What are some relationship do's and don'ts in your own playbook?
GU: "Do be adventurous, have some regrets, incorporate your significant other into your antics and make up your own rules. Don't follow anyone else's rules or compare your relationship to someone else's."
SL: What's a relationship deal-breaker for you?
GU: "Bad dental hygiene!"
SL: You and your fiancee (NBA player Dwayne Wade) have busy professional lives! What's your best tip for finding balance?
GU: "Learn to say no, it is important to spend time with one another. You do not need to be everywhere so do not be afraid to say no to some things."
SL: You're set to tie the knot this summer, but you've already got plenty of bachelorette party experience from filming "Think Like a Man Too". What's your recipe for an awesome bachelorette party?
GU: "Not to talk about the awesome bachelorette party. First rule of fight club, don't talk about fight club."
