5 beanie-friendly hairstyles
Beauty tutorials are big on YouTube - a search for "makeup tutorial" and "hair tutorial" yields more than 5 million videos. In this weekly series, we put a mix of popular and under-the-radar tutorials to the test and show you what's best.
As soon as the weather drops below 50 degrees (it's currently 36 in New York), there's a 95 percent chance that I will be wearing a beanie or a similar type of headwear anytime you see me. Whether I'm indoors or outside fighting to stay warm, it's become my wintertime style staple over the last few years. While I love that the cozy caps make bad hair days a thing of the warmer months, it's easy to fall into a trap of beauty laziness - and a never ending cycle of hat hair.
Luckily for me, there are pages of tutorials on YouTube that purport to solve this exact hair dilemma, and this week I found my favorite. The instructor is a very cool youngster named Chelsea with vibrant purple hair who talks viewers through five simple ways to style your hair around a beanie - all of which take under two minutes. Yes, a couple of them might seem like common sense (a side braid, pigtails) but she looks adorable throughout and, chances are, you have all of the required products in your arsenal already. I can imagine any model-off-duty sporting one of these styles during Fashion Month, so I'm hoping to achieve that #aesthetic instead of one that screams laziness.
