Read the room, Mr. President. Don't run for re-election. | Letters

Read the room, Biden. Don't run.

I think that a majority of Democrats and Independents believe, even at this late stage, that President Joe Biden should make way for an alternate presidential candidate, one more likely to win. Biden contends persuasively that there is great danger to democracy if Trump and his acolytes are victorious in the coming presidential election. For that very reason, Biden's patriotism - if not his self-interest - should prompt him to quit the race in favor of a Democrat with greater vote-getting power and ability to heal divisions in the party. If Biden can't face that reality, one hopes it's still possible for influential Democrats to open the door to a new candidate.

Big rigs a big problem in the Acreage

Palm Beach County is proposing a code change to allow two dump trucks/semi-trucks up to 80,000 pounds per property in The Acreage, after outcries from truck drivers who have been cited by code enforcement for illegal truck parking on residential properties. Trucks over 12,500 pounds are not allowed in agricultural/equestrian residential properties, and yet people continue to move in without checking the local rules.

Truckers are bullying neighbors who are opposed to the constant noise, environmental impact, noxious fumes, damaged roads and having their children yelled at making them afraid to use their own yards. The roads in The Acreage were not designed for use by these heavy trucks and the continued damage is costing the taxpayers. The majority of residents are afraid to speak out due to harassment and are being penalized by those with a blatant disregard for the laws. Why is illegal behavior of the few being rewarded and affecting the many? Commissioners please listen to residents who oppose a life-altering change to the rural way of life in The Acreage and do not set a precedent for this industrial trend to happen in our or other residential communities. Please remove The Acreage Exception from the proposed Unified Land Development Code changes on Jan. 25.

Governor offers policies that fail Floridians

Way to go Gov. DeSantis. The state’s Department of Children and Families has failed to apply for Florida’s share of federal funds for underfed, needy children for the summer. Maybe the next move will be for the state to reject federal hurricane relief funds.  After that Florida can allow insurance companies to set premiums without limits. Presidential hopeful and Florida Gov. DeSantis's state is trying to offer examples of how government can fail to deliver for its citizens. Will anyone notice?

Trump's record still despicable

Donald Trump will never be immune to culpability in the minds of law abiding Americans. To us,  he will always be guilty of the heinous crime of instigating and abetting the attack and attempted  overthrow of Congress on Jan. 6, 2021. We saw him; we heard him. He lies, orders his attorneys to lie, threatens the Constitution and the American voters. He continues his maniacal rants ad nauseum. Trump will never convince ”We, the people..." to approve his deceitful actions.
