Here's what critics have been saying:

Variety

"Writer-director JT Mollner flips the script on this tired genre, crafting the cleverest thriller of its kind in a while with a mighty assist from a pair of killer performances by co-leads Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner. Best experienced with as little foreknowledge as possible, Strange Darling demands a bit of patience, but it also rewards it."

Movie Files

"Strange Darling is a quintessential 'WHAT DID I JUST WATCH' but in the BEST way. It’s an incredibly made, twisted cat & mouse non liner film that will have you shocked by all the surprises along the way. Kyle Gallner is great & Willa Fitzgerald delivers a world class performance."

The Mary Sue

"Mollner’s film could be the next great genre hit—the sort of buzzy thriller best seen knowing as little as possible."

The Blogging Banshee

"Strange Darling is an exhilarating, twisted thriller that has the look and feel of a 1970’s exploitation film, but with an updated social commentary to deliver something new. Mollner is clearly a filmmaker to take notice of. While the script could have been refined just a bit, what Mollner delivers is a story with fascinating characters and plenty of surprises that is as exciting as it is thought-provoking."

Bloody Disgusting

"In the end, Strange Darling refuses to dig deeper with the lofty questions it poses, but that doesn’t erase the good will the first two acts of the film has built up. What we are left with is a grim little thriller whose lofty ambitions prove to be too much for it in the end, but you’ve got to give it credit for trying."

Strange Darling's cinema release date is yet to be announced. Reacher season 2 will air on Prime Video in December.
