Ordinary Angels, the new film starring Hilary Swank and Alan Ritchson, has confirmed its release date in the UK.

The film follows Sharon Stevens (Swank), a hairdresser and recovering alcoholic who rallies a Kentucky community to help Ed Schmitt (Ritchson), a widowed father who is trying to save his critically ill daughter (Emily Mitchell) during a cold wave.

The film, which is based on a true story, opened to US audiences last month (February 23), and now UK viewers can look ahead after the release date was confirmed for April 26.

In addition to the aforementioned trio, Ordinary Angels also stars Nancy Travis, Tamala Jones, Drew Powell and Amy Acker. Jon Gunn is on directing duties, with Meg Tilly and Kelly Fremon Craig penning the script.

The film received positive reviews upon its release in the US last month, with aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes reporting an 86% approval rating from 83 reviews thus far, marking the film as certified fresh.

Ritchson is perhaps best known for his role on Prime Video series Reacher, but recently revealed that getting in shape for the character proved difficult, saying: “I want to clarify one thing, because in every interview someone says '30 pounds of muscle'. I put on 30 pounds.

“I don't know how much of that was lean muscle. I went from 205lb to 235lb in eight months. I was eating a tonne. I don't think all of that was muscle. A good chunk was – a little more than half, maybe. But I didn't take steroids [or] testosterone.

“There was only one way to get where I needed to be and that was hard work. I f**king wrecked my body. It was too much. I didn't have time to heal. I would strain something and I was like, 'I don't care! I'm working through it!'. I suffered the consequences.”

Ordinary Angels is released on April 26.
