‘Reacher’ Becomes First Amazon TV Series to Top Nielsen SVOD Rankings

Reacher” is the first Amazon Prime Video TV series to top Nielsen’s streaming rankings. Previously, the Amazon comedy “Coming 2 America” landed in first place, but this marks the first for a TV show from the streaming service.

For the week of Feb. 7-Feb. 13, the action-thriller show came in at No. 1 on the Top 10 list of SVOD titles, with 1.589 billion minutes watched during its first full week of availability. Per Nielsen, “The audience for the action thriller starring Alan Ritchson largely skewed male (58%), while increasing its viewership from younger streamers in the 18-34 and 35-49 age demographic.”

Amazon’s “Reacher” premiered Feb. 4 and was renewed for Season 2 three days later. The show is based on the Jack Reacher novel series by Lee Child. The first season is based on the debut novel in the series, “Killing Floor,” which was released in 1997. Per Amazon, at the time of its Feb. 7 renewal, “Reacher” was already one of the streaming platform’s top five most-watched shows of all time, though it must be noted that Amazon also not provide viewership numbers.

Meanwhile, Shonda Rhimes’ “Inventing Anna” debuted on Netflix at No. 4 on the list for the week of Feb. 7, behind fellow Netflix originals “Sweet Magnolias” in 2nd with 1.556 billion minutes viewed and “Ozark” in 3rd with 1.222 billion minutes. Rounding out the Top 10 were Disney Plus’ “Encanto,” “The Book of Boba Fett,” CBS drama “NCIS” on Netflix, Netflix original “Raising Dion,” the kids show “Cocomelon” on Netflix and CBS’ “Criminal Minds” on Netflix.
