Ray Fisher opens up about Zack Snyder reunion for Rebel Moon

Ray Fisher has opened up about reuniting with director Zack Snyder for the Netflix space opera Rebel Moon.

Fisher is re-teaming with the filmmaker after previously playing Cyborg in Snyder's Worlds of DC — and publicly championing the director in his quest to complete the Snyder Cut of Justice League.

Now, Fisher is paired with Infinity Pool's Cleopatra Coleman in Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire as the warrior siblings Darrian and Devra Bloodaxe, members of a rebel group united to topple the corrupt Motherworld government.

Speaking to Digital Spy about the project, Fisher said it felt unique being back on set with Snyder even after all they went through on Justice League.

"Well, it's interesting because I didn't know exactly how it was going to work," he told us. "I think every film set, even with the same director, every experience can be different. The elements are different. Where you're shooting is different. There are just different variables.

"I knew there'd be one constant, in that Zack is who Zack is. And so that's one of those comforting things where you go in, and you're like, 'Look, no matter what happens, I know it's going to look great. He'll take care of us and make sure that we have everything that we need and the best possible chance for success'."

Fisher added: "My first feature film was with Zack Snyder, back in 2016 [Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice]. I took every opportunity I could to let folks know, 'It'll be fine. It's going to be great'."

Former Game of Thrones star Michiel Huisman, who plays Gunnar in Rebel Moon, has experience in vast world-building from his time in Westeros, yet even he was impressed by the scope of Snyder's planned trilogy of sci-fi epics.

"I had seen some big sets before, coming onto Rebel Moon. But the scale of what we did here blew my mind," he said.

"I'm thinking of, for example, the set that was to be our village, Veldt. It was built against a hill just outside of Los Angeles. The backdrop beyond the wheatfields was this gigantic wall made by using shipping containers.

"I think they probably used at least 40 or 50 with the biggest green screen I have ever seen in my life. We will never see a green screen that size again ever. But you need a big green screen if you want to put that moon on it.

"I really enjoy the technical side of filmmaking as well, and to see with how much ease Zack and his team pulled that off, it was just mindblowing."

Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire is in select cinemas from December 15 and is released on Netflix on December 22.
