Council is looking for a new member after Rob Kairis was appointed as president of council. Kairis replaced Andrew Kluge, who resigned, citing job and family commitments.

The new council member will serve Ward 2, which is the northeast quadrant of the city and where Kairis previously served.

Council scheduled a round of interviews for Thursday, and will interview two others on Monday, April 29. All interviews will take place in executive session. After Monday's interviews, council will convene into an open session and appoint the new council member.

The following were scheduled to be interviewed Thursday:

  • Larry Silenius

  • Ralph Townend

  • Mark Busher Sr.

  • Mindy Leonard

Two others will be interviewed starting at 6 p.m. Monday:

  • Greg Francis

  • Tyler Marovich

Both Kairis and his successor will serve until Dec. 31, 2025, with both needing to run for office that year if they wish to keep the seat.

A seventh candidate also sought the appointment, but submitted a letter of interest after the application deadline, Councilman Tim Calfee said.
