Fewer people saw Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce win “The Match” last Thursday than tuned in for the 2022 version of the made-for-TV golf event.

The Sports Business Journal reported 782,000 people watched this year’s edition of “The Match” on TNT, TruTV and HLN. When Mahomes and Bills quarterback Josh Allen took on Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers in 2022, there were 1.452 million people watching, SBJ reported.

Both of those versions of “The Match” were held on a weekday night and fell far short of the numbers from the first televised edition in 2020.

Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning beat Brady and Phil Mickelson on a Sunday afternoon, drawing 5.667 million viewers, per the Sports Business Journal.

However, this year’s edition of the match with the Chiefs stars still did solid numbers. It tied for the most viewers in the 25 to 54 age group, according to Show Buzz Daily.

“The Match” went head to head against the announcement of the starters for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, which aired on ESPN. Mahomes and Kelce won that matchup, as the All-Star reveal had 389,000 viewers, per Show Buzz Daily.

Among the English-speaking sports programming on that night, nothing beat the ratings garnered by Mahomes, Kelce and the Golden State Warriors stars in “The Match.”
