Rapper A$AP Rocky charged with assault for allegedly shooting friend last November

Rapper A$AP Rocky has been charged in connection with a 2021 shooting in Hollywood.

The 33-year-old musician was charged Monday with two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm with allegations of personally using a firearm in the alleged shooting of a former friend.

“Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious offense that could have ended with tragic consequences not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood,” Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said in a statement. “My office conducted a thorough review of the evidence in this case and determined that the addition of a special firearm allegation was warranted.”

The rapper, whose given name is Rakim Mayers, allegedly pointed a gun at Former A$AP Mob member Terell Ephron, aka A$AP Relli, in November 2021. As they argued, Rocky allegedly drew the gun and fired at Relli twice.

Relli has since sued his former high school buddy for assault, battery, and emotional distress, Rolling Stone reported last week.

Rocky was arrested in April as he returned from a Barbados trip with partner Rihanna, who would give birth to their first child weeks later. The pair said they were “blindsided” by the arrest.

The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery/Homicide Division is still investigating, the district attorney’s office said. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday.
