Ransom wins Westminster golf outing. Coach Doan steps down. Plus bowling, swimming, volleyball

The Ransom Everglades boys’ golf team won the Westminster Christian School Invitational at The Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables.

The Raiders topped a field of 13 teams.

This marked the second time Ransom Everglades won the tournament, the first in 2018.

The tournament consisted of some of the finest boys’ golf teams in South Florida (Miami Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties). A long challenging course layout, speedy greens and breezy conditions made scoring difficult on the par 71.

Softball

Legendary softball coach Scott Doan is stepping down as the varsity head coach at Westminster Christian after 18 seasons. He will continue to serve as a teacher, assistant volleyball coach and as the athletic department’s director of team and program culture.

Doan took over the softball program in 2005 and built one of the most dominant programs in school and state history. Over the past years, his teams have won 500 games, 16 district championships and nine regional championships, seven of which were consecutive. He also brought home the FHSAA State Championship in 2009, 2014, 2017 and 2018.

Westminster Christian Athletic Director Ben Warren said: “Coach Doan has impacted countless lives, while serving as head coach for more than 30 years at Westminster and Florida Christian, and has sent more than 25 student-athletes to play softball at the collegiate level. His program created a standard of excellence for Westminster athletics, and demanded a level of commitment and hard work that is difficult to match.”
