Earlier Wednesday afternoon, the football world learned that the Los Angeles Rams were giving the No. 3 jersey to a new player.

The jersey belonged to free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. last year. However, heading into the 2022 season, running back Cam Akers will be taking over as the team’s No. 3.

Initially, fans weren’t sure what that meant for OBJ. Some fans thought it was a sign he might night be re-signing with the Rams this offseason.

“So uhhh is OBJ gone?” one fan asked.

Not exactly. According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Odell’s plan was to give up the No. 3 jersey after the 2021 season came to an end.

“Last year, Cam Akers planned to switch to No. 3, but NFL wanted to charge him $500,000, so he waited until this season to make the switch, for free,” Schefter explained. “When OBJ signed, the Rams and NFL arranged for him to wear No. 3, but all sides agreed he would have a different number in 2022.”

Rams fans should breathe a sigh of relief. While no one knows where Odell will play next, the recent Cam Akers news doesn’t rule out a potential return to Los Angeles.

Where will Odell play in 2022?
