Rain is coming to Fresno, Valley — and possibly thunderstorms. Here’s what to expect

Rain — and possibly thunderstorms — are headed to Fresno this weekend.

It won’t be a repeat of the deluge we saw last month, however.

The Fresno area is forecast to get about a quarter of an inch of rain between Saturday night and into Sunday.

Rain is expected to start around 9 p.m. or 10 p.m. Saturday, said Dan Harty, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Hanford.

It won’t be a steady rain, but instead, hit-or-miss showers across the central San Joaquin Valley, he said.

There is a slight chance of thunderstorms in the Valley on Sunday during the day.

Merced and mountains

In Merced, the rain is expected to arrive around 4 p.m. Saturday as the storm rolls south.

And in the Sierra, a winter storm warning starts at 7 p.m. Saturday and lasts through 10 p.m. Sunday.

The mountains are expected to get snow.

Elevations between 6,000 and 8,000 feet are forecast to get 6 to 18 inches of snow. Areas below that could get 2 to 6 inches.

Parts of the Valley floor saw dense fog Saturday morning. Fog is expected to revisit the area into next week.
