Raiders vs Chiefs NFL Week 5 prediction: Las Vegas to pull off an upset in Kansas City?

AP

GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium hasn’t been too kind lately to the Raiders.

The Raiders hope to reverse the trend Monday, when they face the Chiefs at 5:15 p.m. PDT on ESPN.

Both teams are coming off wins.

The Raiders defeated the Broncos 32-23 to pick up their first victory of the season. The Chiefs outlasted the Buccaneers 41-31 to improve to 3-1.

The Raiders played a sound game against the Broncos behind Josh Jacobs’ big game and Amik Robertson’s fumble recovery for the team’s first defensive touchdown since 2019.

Much of what they did against Denver needs to continue against the Chiefs, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes continuing to star in his young NFL career.

And it won’t hurt if the Raiders avoid providing any bulletin-board material that could add to the Chiefs’ motivation.

Just ask the 2020 Raiders, after they defeated the Chiefs at Arrowhead and decided it was OK to ride around the stadium in the team bus. The Chiefs got their revenge at Allegiant Stadium.

Or how about former Raiders defensive end Yannick Ngakoue motioning to his teammates to meet at the Chiefs logo at midfield? Kansas City took note of that last year and routed the Raiders 48-9.

It’s doubtful the Raiders will do anything ridiculous before the game this time around.

Injury report

The Raiders welcome back wide receiver Hunter Renfrow (concussion), who has been out for the past two games. LB Denzel Perryman left the game against the Broncos because of a concussion, but he will be good to go. TE Foster Moreau (knee) and CB Sam Webb (hamstring) are questionable while LB Jayon Brown (hamstring) is out.

Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker (ankle) was ruled out. Guard Trey Smith (pectoral), defensive end Mike Danna (calf) and wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (quad/hamstring) are listed as questionable.

Line and over/under

The Raiders are 7.5-point underdogs by FanDuel SportsBook. The over/under is at 51.5.

How to watch on TV

The game will be shown nationwide on ESPN and can be streamed on all ESPN apps.

The Raiders need to be clicking against the Chiefs if they want to come out on top. ... Jacobs needs to repeat what he did against the Broncos last week, topping 140 rushing yards. ... But it won’t be easy against a Chiefs’ run defense that ranks as best in the NFL (65.8 yards per game). ... The Chiefs have allowed 263.8 yards passing per game (27th in the NFL). ... Raiders quarterback Derek Carr needs to exploit that pass defense with the weapons he has, especially if the running game can’t get going. ... Regardless the path, it will be tough for the Raiders to come out with a win against the Chiefs, who have won their past five games on Monday night. ... Don’t be too surprised if the Raiders pull off another road upset of their AFC West rival, but ...
