How Raiders star Davante Adams is hinting at a possible reunion with Aaron Rodgers

Davante Adams is hinting that he would like to play with Aaron Rodgers again.

This time with the Las Vegas Raiders, where Adams landed last season after eight seasons with Rodgers in Green Bay.

Surprising? Not at all.

Adams posted on Instagram Wednesday morning a back-shoulder reception when Rodgers threw to him while they both were with the Packers.

Then came a question from Las Vegas Locally on Wednesday, asking Adams “which neighborhood is Aaron Rodgers moving to?”

Adams answered “Mine.”

So it’s hardly a secret: He wants to be teammates with Rodgers ... again.

The Raiders are bidding farewell to Adams’ best friend, Derek Carr, who started the past nine seasons with the team but is now set to be traded or released as Las Vegas moves on at the quarterback position.

Adams was asked in early January if he hopes to kept in the loop on the Raiders’ offseason search for new personnel.

He offered an emphatic, “Absolutely,” response.

‘We’ve all got a really good dynamic and it’s something that I really appreciate,” Adams said. “I’ve mentioned it to them as well. Obviously, they don’t have to do anything as far as I’m not a part of the front office, but obviously they know the reason why I came here and a step like this is obviously something that means a lot to me and my personal career and obviously what I’m trying to chase as far as the ultimate pursuit to get that ring.

“I’m not a guy that’s just going to come in here just saying anything — they know whether it’s about the scheme or if it’s about personnel, whatever it is, there’s a rhyme to the reason. So, I’m definitely going to have something behind whatever it is that I’m thinking or saying. So, we obviously got a good understanding for one another and that helps this whole process.”

Is Rodgers to Raiders a real possibility?

Do the Raiders have a realistic chance to lure another Green Bay star, a year after trading for All Pro receiver Adams? Yes, when you have a potential draw and powerful voice such as Adams who, as noted, said he would be sharing his thoughts and vision on how to improve the team.

The Raiders need to make something happen in the offseason to get a new starting quarterback. Rodgers needs to be considered among the best options as the AFC West only gets more competitive.

The Chiefs are headed back to the Super Bowl, the Chargers also made the playoffs this past season and, oh yeah, the Broncos reached a deal to name Super Bowl XLIV champion Sean Payton as their next head coach.

Offshore betting site SportsBetting.ag listed Rodgers as the third favorite, at +425, to be the Raiders’ starting quarterback in Week 1 next season. Jarrett Stidham (+125), who took over for Carr in the final two games this season, and 49ers free agent Jimmy Garoppolo (+200) were ahead of Rodgers.

Stidham showed flashes of his potential in his first career start, against San Francisco, but was far less impressive versus Kansas City in the season finale.

That is why Rodgers to the Raiders needs to happen, because even at 39 he could give the franchise at least three years before he retires.

It’s likely the Raiders also will target a quarterback at some point in the 2023 NFL draft who could then be mentored by a veteran.

How to get Rodgers

To acquire Rodgers, the Raiders will have to give up a couple of draft picks, perhaps spread over multiple years.

Adding a player or two already on the roster into the mix is not out of the question.

Quarterbacks traded in recent years include Matthew Stafford to the Rams, with Jared Goff going to the Lions. The Lions acquired two first-round picks (2022 and 2023) and a third-rounder in the deal.

The Seahawks traded Russell Wilson and a 2022 fourth-round pick to the Broncos for Drew Lock, Shelby Harris, Noah Fant and the Broncos’ first- and second-rounders in 2022 and 2023. A 2022 fifth-rounder was also in the deal.

Though, the Raiders could have additional picks if they end up trading Carr, that’s less likely because Carr has a no-trade clause and would have to approve any deal. Teams could simply opt to wait for Las Vegas to cut him from the roster.

In addition to the possible draft capital, Rodgers won’t come cheap when it comes to the salary cap. In 2022, he signed a three year, $150 million contract. He has a guaranteed option of $58.3 million in 2023, according to OvertheCap.

Trades can not be officially completed until the new league starts on March 13.
