Raiders’ Amik Robertson stood tall after taunt by Jerry Jeudy in a win over the Broncos

Too small?

Raiders cornerback Amik Robertson was not having any of that Sunday from Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy.

Russell Wilson completed a 32-yard pass to Jeudy to the Raiders 12-yard line in the second quarter, with Jeudy then looking at Robertson and signaling with his hands that he was too small.

Robertson, listed at 5 feet, 8 inches, said something back to the 6-1 Jeudy. It later came back to bite Jeudy and his Denver teammates.

Robertson responded with a 68-yard fumble return for a touchdown — the Raiders’ first defensive TD since 2019 — as Las Vegas took a 16-10 lead with 3:15 remaining in the first half.

Robertson finished with three tackles to help the Raiders get their first win of the NFL season, a 32-23 victory at Allegiant Stadium.

“Amik’s a football player,” Raiders coach Josh McDaniels said. “Any challenge that Amik gets, he kind of rises to the occasion. I think just from his stature, he’s always kind of had it against him that maybe he’s too this, too that. Amik’s tough, Amik’s fast. He’ll hit you. He had a couple of big hits today. I thought he really rose up and tried to play his best football after that. I thought he was going to go down about two or three different times after he got the ball out on the fumble. I mean, he did a great job of running with the ball.

“He’s a tough guy. I’m really happy we have him on our team. He plays a lot of different roles, and he’s growing and getting better. “

For good measure (before his fumble recovery and run), Robertson tackled Jeudy for no gain near the right sideline at the Las Vegas 18-yard line and celebrated after the takedown.

Raiders quarterback Derek Carr complimented Robertson for having a big game.

“Amik kept doing his job,” he said. “He just kept competing. I’ve always loved him. He’s the guy that we say is always constantly trending upward. We always say that about him, just his personality. He did some good fighting off some blocks on some bubble screens and making tackles. I could tell it made him mad when he did it. And he’s like, ‘Alright, we’re going to keep playing.’ It was good to see him compete that way, especially with all the injuries we got going on in the secondary. I was happy for him because he’s such a good kid.”

Record day for Josh Jacobs

The running game worked early and often for the Raiders.

Josh Jacobs finished with 28 carries for a career-high 144 yards and two touchdowns.

He had scoring runs of 10 and 7 yards, the latter of which clinched the game for the Raiders.

Jacobs now owns nine career games with multiple rushing touchdowns, the second most in the NFL since 2019, behind Derrick Henry (13) of the Tennessee Titans. He has 30 career rushing touchdowns, tied for the fourth most in the NFL since 2019. He reached 30 career rushing touchdowns at the age of at the age of 24 and 233 days, becoming only the 20th player in NFL history to accomplish the feat by that age or younger and the first in franchise history.

Maxx Crosby comes through again

Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby made his presence known to the Broncos quarterback.

Crosby finished with two sacks of Wilson, four tackles for a loss overall and two quarterback hits.

He was also helped in the sack department by Nate Hobbs, who had one.

Crosby recorded his seventh career game with multiple sacks, tying Chester McGlockton and Lyle Alzado for the ninth most multi-sack games in franchise history. His seven games with multiple sacks are tied for the 10th most in the NFL since 2019, and his 29.0 total sacks are tied for 11th over that span.

Crosby has recorded 13 career games with multiple tackles for loss — the second most in the NFL since 2019 (Aaron Donald, 14).
