This Is Not a Drill: The Official Trailer for “Bottoms” Just Dropped

Two of our fave Gen Z funny girls, Bodies Bodies Bodies’ Rachel Sennott and The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri, are bringing us an all-new queer teen comedy movie called Bottoms. The two comedians are set to star in the hilarious coming-of-age flick, which was written and directed by Emma Seligman. Rachel, who wrote and starred in 2021’s Shiva Baby, also serves as a screenwriter for Bottoms, Elizabeth Banks, Max Handelman, and Alison Small, who all worked on Pitch Perfect, are credited as producers for the upcoming comedy.

Bottoms premiered at the 2023 SXSW festival in Austin, Texas on March 11, but we’re counting down the days until it arrives in theaters nationwide. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming release, from its plot to who’s been cast.

What is Bottoms about?

According to the film’s synopsis on SXSW's website, Bottoms will follow two unpopular queer high school seniors (played by Rachel and Ayo, respectively) who start a wrestling team in an attempt to impress and hook up with cheerleaders.

Who is in the Bottoms cast?

Along with Rachel and Ayo, the Bottoms cast is stacked with tons of talented stars, including Kaia Gerber, Cinderella’s Nicholas Galitzine, and Saturday Night Live comedian Punkie Johnson. Per an April 2022 report by Deadline, the cast also includes Marshawn Lynch, Ruby Cruz, Havana Rose Liu, Miles Fowler, and Dagmara Dominczyk.

Is there a trailer for Bottoms?

Yup! The official trailer for Bottoms dropped on June 6, and it’s proving to be the next best teen comedy of our generation. We still have a couple more months to wait for the film’s theatrical release, but check out the two-minute clip below for a sneak peek at what’s in store.

When does Bottoms come out?

Bottoms hits select theaters on August 25, 2023. “A movie about empowering (hot) women!! In theaters august 25th 🤼♀️ ,” Rachel captioned her announcement post on Instagram, which also revealed the film’s official poster.

As a headliner at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, Bottoms previously premiered at the festival on March 11, 2023.
