Quinn Ewers, previously the top prospect in the 2022 high school football class, announced Monday that he will forgo his senior season and enroll at Ohio State.

“Over the past few weeks, following Texas’ UIL informing me I would be prohibited from profiting off my own name, image, and likeness, I’ve taken time to think about what lies ahead of me, both in the short and long term,” Ewers tweeted. “Following conversations with my family and those I know have my best interests in mind, I’ve decided it’s time for me to enroll at Ohio State and begin my career as a Buckeye.”

Riley Dodge, Ewers’ coach at Southlake Carroll in Texas, released a statement Monday regarding his quarterback’s decision. Dodge has had a hand in Ewers’ development for several years.

“We recognize the in-depth research by the University Interscholastic League on Texas’ NIL Legislation on determining what is allowed by law for Texas high school athletes,” Dodge said. “The entire [Southlake Carroll] community will greatly miss Quinn on and off the field. He is an incredible young man who exemplifies what it means to be a Dragon – inspiring excellence in his teammates and modeling what excellence looks like in the classroom and on the field.”

Todd Dodge, Riley’s father, is a legendary coach in the state of Texas. Todd currently coaches Westlake High School in Austin. He’s worked with, among many others, Drew Brees, Matthew Stafford, Nick Foles, Chase Daniel and Greg McElroy. The elder Dodge believes Ewers to be as special a talent as the guys on that list.

“Quinn Ewers is special. That arm is special,” Todd told Lettermen Row. “I told Riley, it’s like halfway through ball flight, Quinn’s ball accelerates. I’ve just, I mean, I’ve never seen that. Even when he was a rising ninth grader. He’s got such a strong arm, but he doesn’t get enough credit for being an outstanding touch passer.”

Ewers is widely regarded as the new number one prospect in the 2021 class.
