Quincy's Adams beats buzzer, Hanover: Top South Shore sports performers for Dec. 17-23

TUESDAY, Dec. 18

BOYS BASKETBALL

Quincy's Danny Adams (37 points) hit an overtime buzzer-beater to lift the Presidents to a 57-56 road win over Hanover. Manny Aguayo added 13 points for Quincy, which gave new coach Matt Ramponi his first victory at his alma mater. Luke Mordas was strong defensively for the Presidents, and Mohamad Taljahi had a big rebounding game. Hanover's Tyler Vincent scored a career-high 24 points, James Ritchie added 12, and Owen Barth forced OT with a tying 3-pointer at the buzzer in regulation.

Hingham's Chase Mello (22 points) and Charlie Matthews (21) led the Harbormen to a 65-57 win over Plymouth North. Killian La Tanzi (10 points, 11 rebounds) and Jack Nicholas (strong defense) also starred in the victory. North was led by Cody Quinn (15 points), Nelson Thevenin (13) and Troy Chase (8).

Weymouth's Will Savage had a career-high 27 points to lead the Wildcats to a 57-49 win over Braintree.

Middleboro's Matt Youngquist and Zach Iwanski each scored 16 points in an 88-41 win over Hull. Jackson Davenport and Gary Burgess each added 11 points for the Sachems (2-0).

Milton's Dylan Raffle scored 11 points, and Ronan Sammon added 9 in a 71-53 loss at Walpole.

Cardinal Spellman's D'Anthony Amado scored 16 points in a 74-54 loss to Wareham. Jay'vonDePina (15 points) and Joey Ebian (14 points, 6 rebounds) also played well for the Cardinals (0-2).

Southeastern's Chance Moya has 20 points in a 63-34 win over Arlington Catholic. Seth Hayes (13 points) and Eddie Coren (10) also contributed.

Brockton topped BC High, 73-64, at home.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Weymouth's Callie Flynn scored a career-high 24 points and added 12 rebounds and 5 blocks to power the Wildcats to a 48-37 win over Braintree. Junior Abby Morris added 15 points.

Rockland's Sofia Brown scored 16 points, and Cailey Kelleher added 13 points and 6 rebounds in a 49-36 win over Mashpee. Maggie Elie (10 points, 9 rebounds, 5 steals) also starred for the Bulldogs (2-2, 2-0 South Shore League).

Taryn Leonard scored a team-high 12 points, and Bella Miniutti (6 points) hit a pair of big 3-pointers to lead Whitman-Hanson (2-1) to a 44-41 win over Silver Lake.

Notre Dame Academy's Effie Giannopoulos scored 16 points in a 50-44 win over Ursuline Academy. Also starring for NDA: Elle Orlando (14 points), Ava Orlando (13 points) and Lola Griffin (7 points, 9 rebounds).

Plymouth North's Mackenzie Hohulin scored 17 points in a 46-39 win over Hingham.

Milton's Ava Regan had 11 points and 4 steals in a 62-37 loss to Walpole. Vic Fish (9 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks) and Sophie Fish (8 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists) also had strong games.

Brockton's Nevaeh King (12 points, 12 rebounds, 3 steals, 5 blocks) and Jalissa Miles (13 points, 10 rebounds, 3 steals) starred in a 63-55 loss to Archbishop Williams. Layla Rivera (11 points, 4 rebounds), Tajeiha Madison (9 points, 4 rebounds), Ava Monteiro (6 points, 11 rebounds) and Sunali Carter (4 points, 9 rebounds) also played well for the Boxers (2-1).

Hanover's Mary Kate Flynn had 12 points in a 56-37 loss to Quincy.

BOYS INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

In a 54-37 loss to Cardinal Spellman at the Reggie Lewis Center, Archbishop Williams' Amir Chapman won the 55 meters (:7.02) and the high jump (5-8), and Eamonn Fennell won the 1,000m (2:51.72) and the mile (4:55.22). Patrick Cadogan won the 300m for Archies (1-1) in :39.55.

Brockton's Kavaughn Vega, Henry Tait and Valorie Moise led the Boxers to a 91-9 win over New Bedford.

GIRLS INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Archbishop Williams' Kaitlyn Burke won the 55m (:7.71) and 300m (:45.95), and Allison Flynn won the high jump (4-8) and long jump (15-10.5) as the Bishops (3-0) posted victories over Bishop Fenwick, 50-41, and Arlington Catholic, 60-29. Other winners for Archies: Hannah Griffin (1,000m, 3:29.84) and Maddie Hussey (2-mile, 12:08.18).

SWIMMING/DIVING

In an 85-59 loss to Boston Latin Academy, the Brockton co-ed team got a win from Jacob Le in the 200 freestyle and second-place finishes from Liam Rizzo (100 free) and Anthony Xique-Nayera (50 free).

SUNDAY, Dec. 17

BOYS BASKETBALL

Michael Porter scored 15 points, and Joey Burke added 14 to lead Scituate to a 70-60 non-league home win over Archbishop Williams. Brian Good and Roman Glowac each added 10 points for the Sailors (3-0). In the loss, Tristan Rodriguez scored a game-high 19 points for the Bishops, the defending Div. 3 state champs.

GIRLS GYMNASTICS

Sienna Besser won bars (8.4) and tied for first on floor exercise (8.7) to lead Hingham/Hull to a 129.45-127.7 win over Marshfield. Annie Spencer of Marshfield won vault (9.1) and beam (9.2) and tied for first on floor (8.7).
