Quincy soccer claims title at Oriole Classic; Coldwater races past Pennfield

QUINCY – The Quincy Oriole soccer program appears to be peaking at just the right time, as can be seen by their championship win at their home Quincy Invitational on Saturday in addition to their mercy win over Big 8 rival Bronson on Monday night.

Monday night the Orioles saw Laura Bostic score goal after goal, as Bostic poured in a total of five goals in the 12-0 win over the Vikings.

Quincy got on the board early with a goal from Claire Robertson at the three-minute mark with an assist from Sade Harges. Just four minutes later it was Harges getting in on the scoring with a goal of her own, on an assist from Kaylyn Brenner.

The Orioles rolled from there, as the Quincy defense locked down a promising Bronson lineup, not allowing a single shot on goal.

Bostic’s five goals led the way while MacKenzi Maynard and Abby Hinds added two goals each. Ella Bartell, Robertson, and Harges also contributed to the 12-0 mercy rule win.

On Saturday, the Quincy Orioles finished the day 2-0, taking wins over Bronson and Parchment to claim the title of the Oriole Classic as part of Quincy’s All Sports Day.

Game one saw Quincy defeat Bronson by the score of 10-0. Again, it was Bostic leading the way for the Orioles, netting three goals with one assist.

Also adding to the Orioles effort was Sami Hollenbaugh and Harges with two goals each while Adriana Welch, Maynard, and Tessa Henry each added a goal.

In the championship game of the tournament, it was Quincy scoring four unanswered goals to defeat Parchment 4-1.

Parchment scored first on a misplayed ball on defense, going up 1-0. Quincy scored four unanswered goals after that on their way to the win.

Hollenbaugh led the way with three goals while Bostic chipped in with a goal. Abby Hinds had two assists in the win.

Quincy is 9-3-1 overall on the season.

Coldwater gets past Pennfield in Interstate 8 play

BATTLE CREEK – The Coldwater Cardinal girls soccer team took a key Interstate 8 victory on Friday night, defeating Pennfield by the score of 5-2.

The Cardinals were led by Bella Lozada who had two goals while Riley Sheets, Cara Miller and Lily Bockheim all had a single goal.

Maya Walinski added an assist in the victory.
