Quick Q&A with new Statesman business & public health reporter Angela Palermo
Reporter Angela Palermo joined the Idaho Statesman newsroom’s business and public health teams in July to cover general business news and to track data and update you on the state of coronavirus in Idaho.
Angela grew up in Hagerman and is a graduate of the University of Idaho where she studied journalism and business, winning awards for her stories in U of I’s student newspaper The Argonaut.
Before joining the Statesman in July, Angela covered education at the Lewiston Tribune and Moscow-Pullman Daily News.
Q: Why did you choose journalism as a career?
A: What’s that old saying? “Comfort the afflicted, afflict the comfortable?” I got into journalism because I had a curiosity about the way the world worked, a knack for writing and an interest in news and politics.
Q: Growing up in Hagerman, do you have favorite megafauna?
A: I think I’d have to say the Hagerman horse. It’s the state fossil.
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
A: Listen to music or podcasts, tend to my plants or try out new recipes in the kitchen. Sometimes, when I’m not writing stories, I’m on the road visiting one of the national parks in the West with my other half.
Q: What are you looking forward to doing in Boise?
A: Meeting new people and trying new food.
