Another day, another opportunity for Queen Letizia to challenge what it means to dress like a royal.
The Spanish royal consort has once again caught our attention with her wardrobe—this time because she decided to wear a pair of comfy, affordable sneakers to a major ceremony.
On Wednesday, she and husband King Felipe VI of Spain attended the commemoration of the Bicentennial of the National Police at the Royal Palace in Madrid. It was a formal affair, to which the men wore suits or uniforms. But as the only woman onstage, Letizia gave herself more freedom to have fun.
Up top, the queen stayed classic in a woven black and white tweed blazer in a chic houndstooth pattern, from now-defunct Spanish brand Uterqüe. The long, double-breasted piece featured big round buttons encrusted with tiny jewels—a detail that gave the timeless look a fun edge. Letizia wore the blazer with crisp white trousers and then capped off the minimalist fit with a pair of super-thin, super-comfy white sneakers. The shoes, crafted from recycled plastics and featuring an elegant woven detail, are from Vivobarefoot, a British sustainable running shoe label whose footwear is meant to make the wearer feel “as close to barefoot as possible.” They retail for only $175.

To go with the quietly luxurious ensemble, Letizia kept her makeup simple, opting to wear her go-to raspberry shadow and a glossy pink lip. She had her chestnut hair down straight and further elevated her fresh day look with white diamond stud earrings and a white gold ring.
