Queen Elizabeth under medical supervision, doctors ‘concerned for Her Majesty’s health’

Queen Elizabeth II has been ordered under strict rest at her Scottish castle as doctors have grown “concerned for Her Majesty’s health,” Buckingham Palace said Thursday.

The 96-year-old royal is “comfortable” at Balmoral Castle, where she has spent much of the summer, officials said.

“The whole country will be deeply concerned by the news from Buckingham Palace this lunchtime,” new Prime Minister Liz Truss tweeted.

“My thoughts — and the thoughts of people across our United Kingdom — are with Her Majesty The Queen and her family at this time.”

President Biden has been briefed on the queen’s condition, John Kirby, the National Security Council director for strategic communications, told reporters Thursday.

“His and the first lady’s thoughts are solidly and squarely with the Queen today and her family,” Kirby said.

The announcement comes just a day after the queen canceled a virtual meeting with her privy council under “doctors’ advice to rest.”

“Along with the rest of the country, I am deeply worried by the news from Buckingham Palace this afternoon,” Keir Stamer, head of the Labour Party, tweeted. “My thoughts are with Her Majesty The Queen and her family at this time, and I join everyone across the United Kingdom in hoping for her recovery.”

The queen’s eldest son, 73-year-old Charles, the Prince of Wales, is first in the line of succession for the throne, followed by Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge.

Charles is already at the queen’s bedside, alongside wife Camilla, and William is traveling to Balmoral Thursday morning, according to the BBC. Queen Elizabeth’s other two sons, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, traveled with him.

Prince Harry is also en route from London, where he and his wife were supposed to attend the WellChild Awards ceremony Thursday evening, but Meghan stayed behind, according to their spokesperson.

William’s wife, Kate, also did not travel and is reportedly at Windsor, where she was sending their three children off for their first day of school.

Truss, who replaced Boris Johnson after his resignation, met with the queen at Balmoral Wednesday before returning to Downing Street for a public address. Photos from the meeting sparked public concern over a large, dark bruise on the royal’s hand.

Elizabeth, daughter of King George VI, ascended to the throne in 1952 at just 25 years old and has ruled since then. Earlier this year, she became the second-longest reigning monarch, now behind just French King Louis XIV.

The queen celebrated her Platinum Jubilee in June, marking 70 years on the throne, but has been felled by medical issues since then, causing her to skip several major events, including the opening of Parliament.

Scandal has also dominated Elizabeth’s recent years after son Andrew was accused of sexual assault by Virginia Giuffre, who claimed she was trafficked to him as a minor by Jeffrey Epstein.

Harry and Meghan have also distanced themselves from the royal family after the “Suits” actress detailed the racist microaggressions she was subjected to, including an unnamed relative who expressed concern about how dark son Archie’s skin would be.

“One of the most telling parts and the saddest parts, I guess, was over 70 female members of Parliament, both Conservative and Labour, came out and called out the colonial undertones of articles and headlines written about Meghan,” Harry told Oprah Winfrey during an explosive interview last year.

“Yet no one from my family ever said anything. That hurts.”
