Will Queen Charlotte Die in Bridgerton S3?Liam Daniel/Netflix

The third season of Bridgerton is (hopefully) hitting Netflix before the end of 2023, featuring the love story of Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope (Nicola Coughlan). The events of season three won't just pick up where Bridgerton season two left off, however; the "present day" scenes of prequel Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story were set after season two.

We know this because in episode five, Violet Bridgerton tells Lady Danbury: "I am out of sorts. My household is... Anthony is on his honeymoon. Gregory has grown what seems, what, twice his height in a month.. Eloise is in some kind of squabble with Penelope, and you know how close those two are. So she is stomping around the house, looking like a cloud of thunder. I could go on... Do you understand?"

The end of season two reveals that Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley) have just spent six months honeymooning, which places the events of Queen Charlotte firmly within the Bridgerton timeline...

Which leads us to our theory about Queen Charlotte in Bridgerton season three: Does Queen Charlotte die? (Before you panic, this is pure speculation by us!)

Here's why we think that this could be a possibility: In the final episode, Charlotte's son Prince Edward and his wife Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld tell Charlotte that Victoria is expecting a child. That child, Princess Alexandrina Victoria of Kent, born May 24, 1819 is the future Queen Victoria. However, if we look at British history: Queen Charlotte passes away before her granddaughter is born—she dies on November 17, 1818.

Of course, Bridgerton does not need to follow history. And we're hoping it doesn't, so Golda Rosheuvel's Queen Charlotte can be in many, many episodes to come.
