Purdue All-American Marching Band director stepping down at the end of fall semester

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Jay Gephart ends his stint as the director of the Purdue All-American Marching Band at the end of the 2024 fall semester, Purdue University recently announced.

Gepharts, the fifth director of the marching band, steps down after the band's final performance in 2024, according to a news release. He will continue to serve as chairman of the Bands and Orchestras department, direct the Purdue University Wind Ensemble, and conduct other indoor ensembles.

Before joining the Purdue faculty, Gephart worked 12 years as a band director in public schools.

He came to Purdue University in the fall of 1995. In July 2001, he was promoted to associate professor with tenure, and in 2009, he was promoted to full professor.

In November 2006, Gephart was appointed director of University Bands and currently serves as the Al G. Wright Chairman of Purdue Bands and Orchestras.

From 1995 to 2006, Gephart served as the music director for the Purdue Symphony Orchestra. He is the current artistic director for the Kokomo Park Band and is the music director of the Indiana Wind Symphony.

The Purdue All-American Marching Band is the flagship ensemble for Purdue Bands and Orchestras and has traveled worldwide. It also performs each year at the Indianapolis 500.
