Pump House Center for the Arts holds shutterly amazing photography show

CHILLICOTHE — Make sure to smile for the photo as the Pump House Center for the Arts celebrates Captured, the May photography show.

Over 45 images highlighting different individuals, everyday objects and nature hung from the picture railing on both floors of the art gallery during the opening night of the show. Various visitors including artists, friends, family and community members were in attendance to see the artwork displayed.

Maria Dutcher is a longtime photographer but this show was the first time she had displayed her work in a public gallery. She said she was "excited" to see her work displayed and that it was "inspiring" to see all the other works from local photographers.

The show was judged by Lucy Golden Davis who said works were judged on technical proficiency, creative approach and overall presentation. She said that choosing the winners was "no easy task" and that all participants should be proud of their work.

"Your work has brought fresh insights and perspectives to the forefront," said Davis.

The winners are:

  • Honorable Mention- James Hamilton- "Concert Photography Contact Sheet"

  • Honorable Mention- Lanny Strout- "Banished from Eden: Ground Zero"

  • Honorable Mention-Dennis Savage- "Aztec Dream"

  • Honorable Mention- LC Corely- "London Underground"

  • Honorable Mention- Lyric Brown- "Thurmond, West Virginia Train Station"

  • Honorable Mention-Eric Harris- "Reflecting Pool"

  • Honorable Mention- Gunner Barnes- "Smells Like Money" and "Infiltration"

  • 3rd Place- Betsy Parker- "At The Mall"

  • 2nd Place- Dee Russell- "Rust to Rust"

  • 1st Place- Jeffrey Sutherland- "Mayor of Sicily"

  • Best of Show- James Hamilton- "Luke 32"

This show was sponsored by the Atomic Employees Credit Union. Kyle White with the Bridge Street branch of the bank said the company always wants to support the communities it is in and the arts are a great way to do that he was always taught that life isn't really life without art.

The Captured art show will remain displayed at the Pump House Center for the Arts for the rest of the month, select pieces are for sale as well.
