Pruden rolls 807 series at Crystal Lanes in Corning, while Farr finds third 300 of season

That 800 series drought during the first half of the bowling season at Crystal Lanes is now a distant memory. For the second week in a row, third time in five weeks and the fifth time in the second half of the season, a bowler has rung up an 800 series.

This time the honors went to Ricky Pruden in the Hatfield Real Estate Men’s League. Ricky opened the session with a 249 game, but the best was yet to come. He finished the night with back to back 279 games to finish the evening with an 807 series to join five others in the 800 club this year. A ringing ten-pin and a tight four-pin were the two shots that prevented a couple of perfect games.

That same league produced eight other scores over 700, including a share of the runner-up honors. Chad Farr earned a portion of the weekly runner-up honors with a 764 set that had a 248 middle game sandwiched by a pair of 258 efforts. Mike Kosinksi and Bill Bauman were close behind with scores of 748 and 746 respectively. Tim DeGraw carved out a 732 while Nick Dobson rang up a 727 and Ron Bush trimmed a 725 series with a 279 game. Craig Hall’s 719 set featured a 280 opener and Al Farr notched a 707 set but he wasn’t finished just yet.

Al got a share of the runner-up spot when he paced the Gary Cortright Memorial Mixed League with a 764 series that he capped with his third 300 game of the season. So, therefore, we didn’t have to look very Farr for the second best series of the week.

There were 11 other 700s spread across three leagues for the men this week. Jim Sjoblom topped a half-dozen fellows over seven in the Tire World of Corning Men’s League with a 740 series edging out Ron Bush by a single pin for league honors. Mike Kosinski and JR Fleming continued their hot streaks with scores of 725 and 724 respectively while Al Farr added a 708 and Bob Cevette came away with a 702 series.

Jamie Kennedy fashioned a 277 second game on his way to a 756 series to lead the guys in the Joey’s Contracting Mixed League. He was joined by Al Farr (that guy again) at the 718 mark while Brandon Butler capped a 703 series with a 279 game.

Rounding out the seven-shooters this week were Josh Doan and Doug Madison in the Sun Legends Mixed League. Josh fired a 734 set while Doug cashed in a 711 series.

Three seniors top 700

A couple of regular 700 shooters and a newcomer from the Chilson-Wilcox Senior Men’s League highlighted the senior action this week.

Tim DeGraw, aka the super senior sub, paced the C-W League when he put together games of 224, 258 and 259 for a 741 series to gain senior scoring honors. Newcomer Ken Mattison rode a 275 second game along with scores of 216 and 234 to a 725 series, his first senior seven in a few years. John Stermer made it a trio when he sparked a 706 series with a 278 opener and then adding games of 245 and 183.

Another half-dozen guys in this league also topped the 600 mark. Rodger Keenan led that parade with a three-deuce 661 set while Bruce Stanton did the same on his way to a 631 and Al Farr subbed in a 627 series. Judd McAtee tossed a 624 while Bob Kuhnel rolled a 620 and Mike Dunn finished a 616 series with a pair of 223 games.

Don Pierce garnered the only other senior six when he paced the Go-Getters Mixed League with a 640 series.

Three-way race for ladies honors

It was a close three-way race for the weekly honors on the ladies side of the ledger at Crystal Lanes this week.

When the dust settled, Samantha Blanford grabbed the top spot with her 657 series that paced the ladies in the Gary Cortright Memorial Mixed League. After opening with a 234 game, Sam tacked on scores of 201 and 222 for her 657 total.

Anita Gennosa wasn’t far behind — shocker there, huh? Anita led a trio of six-shooting ladies in the Giardina Building & Remodeling Ladies League with a 654 series. She put together games of 236, 205 and 213 to notch the weekly runner-up honors. In the same league, Deon Frost rode a 248 game to a 639 while the hostess with the moistest, Jean Orchowski came away with a 609 series.

Anita Gennosa recorded her second six of the week when she led the ladies in the Joey’s League with a 618 total.

Once again, Hailey Blencowe was in the race for ladies weekly honors. This time she finished third when she topped the Savona Storage Ladies League with a 653 set that included games of 236 and 233.

Three juniors hit 600

Three junior bowlers reached the 600 mark in the Jr./Adult Spring Mixed League.

Peyton Nelson was the ringleader when he rode a 253 game to a 694 series. Dante White tossed a 635 series and Camryn Stefanini closed things with 600 on the nose.

City tournament coming up

The annual city tournament at Crystal Lanes sponsored by the Corning Bowling Association will be taking place the first two weekends of March. Entry blanks are now available at the service desk at Crystal Lanes during regular business hours. We’ll have more details on this event next week.
