Provincetown cluster of COVID cases increases to 830

A cluster of coronavirus infections in Provincetown, Mass., is now linked to over 830 confirmed cases following Fourth of July celebrations.

Town Manager Alex Morse announced the increase on social media Wednesday, The Associated Press reported.

Seven of the 833 cases have required hospitalization, and no deaths have yet been linked to the cluster. Five of those hospitalizations are in Massachusetts.

The numbers, which are cumulative, do not represent the number of those who are currently infected, said Morse.

Massachusetts residents make up just 501 of the cluster’s cases, with Provincetown residents accounting for just 210, Morse said, pointing to statistics from state Department of Public Health.

On the bright side though, the daily test positivity rate has decreased from 15% on July 15 to roughly 6% as of Tuesday.

An indoor mask mandate applying to all workers and customers in indoor public spaces was reinstated following a unanimous vote last Sunday by the town Select Board and Board of Health.
