Providence police investigate weekend homicide

PROVIDENCE − The Providence police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man at an apparent "sip joint" early Sunday morning.

The victim was identified Monday afternoon as Julio Ariza, 28, of Providence.

Shot in the back, Ariza was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the police.

The incident happened at about 5:15 a.m. at 190 Admiral Street, the police said.

A "sip joint" was apparently being operated at the location; it's under investigation, the police said.

No arrests have been made.
