PROVIDENCE − The Providence police are investigating a shooting early Wednesday morning on Donelson Street.

Responding to the area at about 3:22 a.m., officers saw the victim stumbling toward the intersection of Donelson and Eaton streets, the police said.

The victim told the police that the shooter or shooters had fled in an unknown direction.

The victim, whose name and age haven't been released, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment of two gunshot wounds and further medical evaluation, the police said.

The shooting scene is less than a half mile from the scene of a fatal shooting Sunday night on Admiral Street. The police did not say whether there might be a connection.

Checking the scene and surrounding area, the police found several shell casings on March Street. No witnesses approached the police with information. Detectives are investigating.
