Providence Place is getting a new store – and celebrating with Taiko drumming, tea and more

PROVIDENCE – UNIQLO, a Japanese fashion retailer for men, women and children, will open its newest store at Providence Place mall on Friday, May 17.

The new store spans approximately 9,000 square feet, according to a news release from the company. To celebrate its grand opening, UNIQLO plans a full weekend of festivities, including limited time offers, giveaways to the first 100 shoppers each day, and performances by Gendo Taiko drumming.

What do the giveaways include?

From May 17 to 19, UNIQLO will offer special gifts to its customers, including:

  • The first 100 customers in line will receive free UNIQLO knot bags filled with iconic Japanese treats. Customers will also receive an exclusive notebook and pen on Fridays only.

  • The first 100 customers who make a purchase of $99 or more will receive a FREE UNIQLO Round Mini Shoulder bag.

  • The first 250 customers can enjoy free ITO EN tea and a local bakery treat.

  • The first 200 customers can enjoy complimentary treats from Del’s Lemonade (app customers only).

Activities planned for UNIQLO grand opening

  • There will be Taiko drum performances by Gendo Taiko on May 17 at 9:35 a.m., noon, 1 and 3 p.m.

  • Customers will be treated to a personalized and authentic Japanese Calligraphy experience, May 17 through 19, at 3:30 and 5:30 p.m.

What to know about UNIQLO

UNIQLO has more than 2,400 stores worldwide, including 54 stores in the U.S. Since opening its first store in Hiroshima in 1984, UNIQLO has created "apparel that comes from the Japanese values of simplicity, quality, and longevity, featuring universal designs, supreme fit and comfort with the aim to improve the daily lives of its customers," according to the release.
