Who is The Providence Journal Student of the Week? Check out the nominees and vote

Rhode Island is full of great high school students doing incredible things in and out of the classroom and The Providence Journal is recognizing those achievements.

Below you will find the nominations for The Providence Journal's Student of the Week initiative and it's time for you to pick the best of the best.

Voting is open until noon on Thursday, April 11.

High schools across the state have been asked to submit nominations and a new round of nominees and voting will be made available every Monday and close the following Thursday.

Participating Rhode Island high school principals, teachers and guidance counselors nominated students they say have shown outstanding academic and school achievement and community service.

We will announce a winner Friday on providencejournal.com and in print in the Sunday Providence Journal.

Take a look at this week's nominees and cast your ballot below.

Sonam Ngamdung, Middletown High School

Sonam, a junior, was one of four young women from New England chosen by Girls Scouts of America to participate in the 68th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68), the UN's largest annual gathering on gender equality and women's empowerment. While there she spoke at the Girls Deliver Workshop on the Sidelines of CSW68.

She was honored last week at the State House, meeting with Gov. McKee. On Thursday, March 28 she and fellow Girl Scouts spoke with NBC Studio 10’s Mario Hilario about their UN experience.

Aidan Flynn, Narragansett High School

Aidan is an extremely dedicated student here at Narragansett High School. He has been taking college classes at our local universities since his sophomore year. As a sophomore, Aidan was selected to be a research assistant at the Chemical Engineering Research Lab at the University of Rhode Island. Aidan has also devoted many years to the Boy Scouts of America and has gained the rank of Eagle Scout. Aidan is extremely involved in student government and has been an active member of class council since freshman year. In addition to the many activities listed above, Aidan has also spent over 100 hours of his time volunteering for the local community here in Narragansett. Last week Aidan received the exciting news that he was accepted to Yale and Cornell.

Logan Gamache, South Kingstown High School

Logan Gamache, besides being an outstanding student and a credit to South Kingstown High School has completed all the requirements of the Carpentry CTE program by his junior year. He is continuing his construction experience by completing courses in Architectural Drawing and Engineering Graphics in his senior year. He has been accepted at Northeastern University in the Architecture program. He has accomplished this while captaining two swim teams, the SK and SCY. He is completing his senior project by creating wooden structures for wildlife management.
