'Proud and nervous': York's Karen Fogg running in 16th straight Boston Marathon
YORK, Maine — Karen Fogg said so many people, people she knows and people she doesn't, ask her the same question around this time of year.
"'Are you running again this year?'" Fogg said. "And that makes me really proud and nervous all at the same time. It makes me realize that people, they're going to check out what my time was and everything ... I'm not as fast as I used to be."
Fogg, 53, has said year after year the Boston Marathon is her favorite marathon, so when asked the repeated question of will she be running again, the answer is a proud yes.
Fogg, a York resident, is making her 16th consecutive trip to Boston to run in the 128th Boston Marathon Monday, April 15.
"It's one of the hardest, so it's a big challenge for me," Fogg said. "I'm usually up to the challenge, it makes it more rewarding to finish, I guess you could say. There's so many people along the course who have made it a tradition ... I've run it so many times that I see a lot of the same groupings of people along the way so that makes it really fun."

Start times are broken down into groupings of four waves, with each wave having nine corrals.
Wave 1 starts at 10:00 a.m., wave 2 is at 10:25 a.m., wave 3 is at 10:50 a.m. and wave 4 is at 11:15 a.m. Fogg is listed in wave 3, corral 5 which has a scheduled start time of 10:15 a.m. All times are approximate.
Though she's used to running the marathon, Fogg doesn't reveal the time she's aiming to finish the race.
"I don't like to say it out loud," Fogg laughed. "I'm very superstitious."
But one thing that is for certain for Fogg is she is a fan of even numbers, so keep that in mind when thinking if this will be Fogg's last race.
"My daughter wants me to just keep going until I'm like 70, and I don't know if that's going to happen," Fogg said. "I obviously have to qualify every year, but I do like even numbers. So if I qualify again this year, I'm going to have to try and do it again next year, because 17 is not an even number. My husband wants me to do it until I'm 60, and I said, 'I don't know, you try it once.'"
Fogg has run numerous marathons, such as New York and Chicago, but talked more about why Boston is No. 1 in her view.
"(Boston) is the oldest marathon, and it's one of the first you've had to qualify for year after year, you can't just sign up for it," Fogg said. "It's just the whole overall experience from soup to nuts is incredible."
To qualify for next year's 129th Boston Marathon, Fogg's gender and age group must meet the 3 hour-55 minute benchmark.
