Pros, cons of Carolina Panthers picking Mississippi State's Jaden Crumedy in NFL Draft

Mississippi State football defensive lineman Jaden Crumedy was selected by the Carolina Panthers with the 200th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft on Saturday. He's the third MSU defensive lineman drafted since 2021, joining Marquiss Spencer and Cameron Young.

Here's what Crumedy brings to the Panthers, based on our own observations from his tenure at Mississippi State:

What Jaden Crumedy brings to Panthers in 2024 NFL Draft

Crumedy brings a promising but unproven product to the next level. NFL Next Gen Stats rated him as the No. 20 defensive tackle at the NFL Combine. At Mississippi State, he struggled to post impressive numbers.

However, the impact of his presence was evident beyond the stat sheet at times. During the 2022 campaign, Crumedy was sidelined with an injury for Mississippi State's opening eight games. In the five games he played, he posted 15 tackles − with five for loss.

MSU allowed 22.9 points per game in the eight contests Crumedy didn't play. In the games he did play, excluding a defeat to national champion Georgia, MSU allowed 18 points per contest.

Crumedy's best performance came in a ReliaQuest Bowl win against Illinois to close the 2022 season. He collected four tackles and a sack while helping limit the Illini to 10 points.

However, across six seasons, Crumedy struggled to put together an impressive campaign in which he appeared in more than 10 games.

Jaden Crumedy potential in NFL

Mississippi State struggled to find a consistent edge rusher in the latter half of Crumedy's career. If he's playing along a defensive line with strength on the edges, there's a chance for Crumedy to impress.
