A proposal to allow Wisconsin high school athletes to benefit from NIL has been rejected

STEVENS POINT – The WIAA membership voted 219-170 at Wednesday's annual meeting to reject a proposal to allow student athletes to benefit from usage of their name, image and likeness.

The vote preserves the status quo of restricting student athletes from receiving compensation while maintaining eligibility.

The NIL proposal was one of three proposals voted on by WIAA member schools at Wednesday's annual meeting. A proposal allowing for youth camps for grades eight and below to be conducted outside the season of competition for that sport, as well as during the summer, passed by a 381-9 membership vote. A separate proposal allowing for the use of one unedited video replay clip in appealing an ejection of a student athlete to the WIAA within 24 hours of the event was approved by a 387-1 vote.
