Built in 1871, the Jules Building at 230 Bull St. just sold for $6 million, according to a press release from Engel & Völkers Savannah, the agency that brokered the deal.

The four-story, 10,700-square-foot building overlooks Chippewa Square and has operated as The Jules, a luxury boutique inn since 2019. The mansion previously was restored as part of a National Park Service and State of Georgia-approved Historic Preservation project. It sits on the southeast trust lot, directly to the south of the Historic Savannah Theatre. Based on its location on a trust lot, the building once served a public purpose in accordance with the city's original urban design, the Oglethorpe Plan.

According to a biographical report, Julius and Magdalena Koox purchased lots 35 and 36 of the Brown Ward for $5,000 after immigrating from Germany in 1867. From here, he ran a grocery store and lived in the residence above. His saloon, "The Theatre Shades" is where the Jules now sits.
