Although it seems as though Daisy Edgar-Jones will always invariably be connected to her role of Marianne Sheridan in Normal People (aka the one thing that kept me even remotely sane during peak quarantine), I can assure you that she’s been in *tons* of other TV shows and movies that you’ve got to add to your queue before the weekend. And if you just so happen to accidentally binge all of these recs, fear not, my dear reader! Daisy is still on the rise as an actor, so there’s no doubt that more will be coming our way soon—after all, her newest project, Where the Crawdads Sing, was quite literally produced by Reese Witherspoon herself!

This one-season show is based on the novel of the same name by Sally Rooney and follows two friends over a literal decade from their teenage years to the entirety of their college life. TL;DR: The two protagonists—Daisy being one of them—break up, make up, and hit repeat over the course of 12 super-dramatic, super-horny, super-intriguing, super-emotional (?!) episodes. You’ve gotta watch—if not for the plot, then for Daisy’s truly incredible breakout performance.

Buckle in, folks! This plot’s a doozy. The recently released Hulu thriller tells the story of Noa (played by *the* ultimate cool girl, Daisy, obvs), a young woman who is over dating men through apps (relatable!) and decides to meet someone the old-fashioned way: IRL. But what she doesn’t know is that the seemingly perfect guy she begins seeing, Steve (aka Sebastian Stan), ends up being anything but that. I won’t spoil the rest for you, but if the trailer alone doesn’t get you to stream it right away, IDK what will. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
War of the Worlds
Sadly, this probs won’t be one of the best flicks Steven Spielberg is known for. How-ev-er! It did solidify that Dakota Fanning is, and always will be, one of my fave actors, so for that I am grateful. The plot? The series of events that would happen if aliens suddenly decided to simply wipe out most of humanity. The cast? Um, hi, Tom Cruise and David Harbour! And of course Daisy, who plays a young Englishwoman with an interesting connection to the intergalactic invaders. Come for the sci-fi theme, stay for her nuanced storyline!
Pond Life
Pond Life marked Daisy’s debut in a theatrically released feature. The film is an independent drama that starts off with a rumor that a giant carp has been residing in nearby ponds. Color me intrigued! That’s when Trevor, a young boy with a penchant for fishing, decides to gather up a bunch of his friends to try and capture it. Daisy plays one of the older teenagers and subjects of the film and is a part of its ensemble cast of actors—each of whom beautifully paints a picture of growing up.
Where the Crawdads Sing
Delia Owens’s exceptionally popular 2018 novel Where the Crawdads Sing recently came out in theaters and was produced by none other than Elle Woods Reese Witherspoon herself. The film adaptation borrows from its literary source and follows two stories: one about a girl growing up in rural North Carolina in the ’50s and ’60s and the other about the murder of a young man. Daisy plays the role of Kya Clark, an abandoned girl who raises herself in the dangerous marshlands of North Carolina. When speaking with Elle Canada about her role, the actor mused that it was Kya’s resilience and curiosity that stood out to her. “I think the part of the story that I do really resonate with is that resilience, and that’s such a human quality,” said Daisy. “Kya suffers a lot of hardship, and despite that, she’s able to bounce back and survive in this hostile environment but ultimately thrive as well. And I think that’s very admirable.” Obsessed!

Under the Banner of Heaven
The FX series Under the Banner of Heaven is based on a v real, v terrifying Jon Krakauer nonfiction book titled Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith that weaves together two stories: the origin of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (aka the Mormon church) and a double murder committed by fundamentalist brothers in 1984. The series itself mixes both fact and fiction to tell the story of a Mormon family in the ’80s who fall into fundamentalism and murder two of their own kind…and honestly, it’s one of those times where fact is truly stranger than fiction. Two words: must watch!
