Projected ACC Tournament bracket 2024: Louisville basketball's road as No. 15 seed

Louisville men's basketball knows its fate heading into the final game of the 2023-24 season.

For the second straight year, the Cardinals (8-22, 3-16 ACC) finished last in conference play and will be the No. 15 seed in next week's ACC Tournament.

Head coach Kenny Payne on Friday said he wants his players to approach the postseason as "a new start" and believes they're capable of "surprising people" at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. If they don't, it could bring about the end of his disastrous tenure at the helm of his alma mater.

"Hadn't thought about it," he said when asked about his uncertain future. "I would hope that we get the runway to fix this program; but that's not my decision."

To buy Payne more time, U of L would have to do something that's never occurred under his guidance: win consecutive ACC games.

Five in a row is the only way the Cards could reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019. It would also match the second-year coach's total number of victories through two seasons of conference play entering Saturday's regular-season finale against Boston College.

As the No. 15 seed, Louisville will face the No. 10 seed at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Entering the weekend, its projected opponent was N.C. State, which is in a three-way tie for eighth place with Florida State and Virginia Tech.

The Cards went a combined 1-3 against the Wolfpack, the Hokies and the Seminoles during the regular season. Their lone win came against FSU, 101-92 on Feb. 3 at the KFC Yum! Center.

Below, you'll find the projected ACC Tournament bracket and information on how to watch all of the games. Check back for updates when the field is finalized later Saturday.
