Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ ‘Women of My Billion’ to Launch on Prime – Global Bulletin

WALKING AND TALKING

Women of My Billion (WOMB),” a documentary produced by Priyanka Chopra Jonas, will play on Prime Video from May 3. Directed by Ajitesh Sharma, “WOMB” follows the journey of Srishti Bakshi, as she embarked on a walking pilgrimage from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, India, spanning 3,800 kms (2,360 miles) over 240 days, with a mission to find and share stories about women, their struggles, dreams, rights, and their wins, against all odds.

“Women have borne the brunt of gender bias for far too long, enduring a silent struggle against entrenched social injustices that seek to suppress their voices. With ‘WOMB’, the aim is to transcend these struggles – to be a beacon of hope,” said Chopra Jonas. “’WOMB’ is not merely a depiction of pain and suffering, but a rallying cry and call for solidarity and action. We hope this film takes us a step closer to a world where every woman is appreciated, honored, and empowered to soar.”

SAVE THE CINEMA

Following the closure of Birmingham’s beloved Electric Cinema in February, a plethora of celebrities have lent their voices to save the 115-year-old Art Deco building from demolition, including “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight, “Succession” star Brian Cox, and the Osbournes. Development proposals intending to demolish a significant section of Birmingham’s Station Street, where the cinema building is located, and replace it with a 50-floor block of flats.

Knight said: “It would be reckless vandalization to destroy Station Street. This is a jewel in the crown of Birmingham’s history. These heritage places are not a luxury, a city is identified by its cultural history and historical landmarks. When you think of Paris you think of the Eiffel Tower, not a block of flats. Birmingham must stop disrespecting itself and selling itself to the highest bidder.”

Birmingham celebrities who have allied to the cause include actor David Harewood, comedian Joe Lycett, TV personality Alison Hammond and musician Toyah Willcox with over 20,000 people signing an online petition, asking Birmingham leaders to designate Birmingham’s Station Street a historic, cultural and civic asset.
