Princess Eugenie Mastered Transitional Season Style in a Chic Gray Knit Dress

Transitional season can make for tricky fashion moments. There are undeniable pitfalls that have to be navigated as both the weather and the temperature remained in flux, and as much as we all love a good casual-cool outfit moment á la Princess Diana, when it comes to elevated and sophisticated between-seasons style, this week we got a lesson from a different royal altogether.

On Thursday, Princess Eugenie headed to the U.S. ambassador's residence in London for a reception and panel focussed on the fashion industry—in particular, the industry's commitment to sustainability. For the event, Eugenie chose a sleek knit midi dress by Gabriela Hearst, a fashion designer known for her dedication to sustainability. The nipped-in waist and subtle wave at the hemline gave the dress a feminine edge, while the short sleeve and collar details, paired with the heathered gray shade, brought the style to a less formal, more whimsical place.

Eugenie paired the style with simple gold hoops and a pair of Gianvito Rossi's signature Gianvito 105 pumps in a taupe suede. Maybe she's been taking notes from some of her royal relatives on the footwear front, as that particular pump also happens to be a go-to of her cousin Prince William's wife, Kate Middleton, as well.

Unlike her cousin, Princess Eugenie is not a working royal. However, she has long been involved in environmental issues. One of her first appearances after her 2018 royal wedding was to support an anti-plastic initiative and just last year, the princess explained that becoming a mother had "positively impacted" her "desire to do more" for the environment.
