Princess Diana's brother, Charles Spencer, has weighed in on all sorts of things royal through the years. And recently, the 9th Earl of Spencer sent a direct message to Kate Middleton amid her cancer battle.

On Friday, March 22, the Princess of Wales announced she was diagnosed with cancer. Middleton underwent planned abdominal surgery in mid-January, and initially, doctors determined her condition was non-cancerous. However, further testing revealed there was cancer present.

“My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy, and I am now in the early stages of that treatment,” the mom-of-three shared in a video shared on social media. “This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.”

In the video, Middleton explained she waited to share the news to ensure they could explain to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis what happened "in a way that is appropriate to them. She also stressed that she is "well and getting stronger every day" while requesting her family's need for "time, space, and privacy" amid her ongoing treatment.

The following day, Spencer took to Instagram to praise his nephew Prince William's wife for her handling of the announcement. "Incredible poise and strength," he wrote on a screenshot of the video.

Recently, Spencer weighed in on the "KateGate" conspiracy theories surrounding the Princess of Wales following her surgery. The 9th Earl of Spencer was asked if he thinks  the "danger" is "more potent" today or when Princess Diana was facing her own conspiracies.

“I think it was more dangerous back in the day,” Spencer said during an interview with the BBC that aired on March 17.

He noted that the circumstances surrounding Diana's 1997 death “were so shocking that it did make the industry that supports the paparazzi really consider more carefully what it could and couldn’t do.”
