Princess Beatrice is having a very busy week.

After attending a Buckingham Palace Garden Party hosted by her cousin Prince William and going to a Mark Cross and Aerin dinner in London, the royal made a surprise appearance at a primary school in South London. In her role as patron of Oscar's Book Prize, Princess Beatrice went to West Thornton Primary School in Croydon for story time. There, she read the 2024 Oscar Book Prize winner, When Dinosaurs Walked the Earth by Sean Taylor and Zehra Hicks.

For the occasion, she wore a cropped denim jacket from Alice + Olivia, over a black floral dress. (Beatrice has been a fan of vibrant floral prints of late.) In an interview at the school, Beatrice said, "I got involved in Oscar's Book Prize a very long time ago. This year's winner of the prize particularly, keeps the reader guessing, you never really know what's going to happen. It brings humor, and a sense of adventure, especially when dealing with dinosaurs."

With her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Beatrice is mom to Sienna Elizabeth, who is two years old, and stepmom to Christopher "Wolfie," eight years old—so she definitely has a familiarity with children's books. Her mother, Sarah Ferguson, is also an author.

"I grew up with an incredible mum as a children's author, so stories really created that sense of imagination," she said. "I really appreciate what stories can do, that special quality time, that moment at the end of the day—but also how important it is for reading, in general for young people, so making sure that we can do everything that we can to really make sure that these books really get into the hands of those that need it the most."
