Prince William has returned to work.

Following a brief hiatus from royal duties, William embarked on his first public outing today since his wife, Catherine, Princess of Wales, announced her cancer diagnosis last month.

On Thursday, William spent some time in Surrey and West London to meet with staff and volunteers from charity Surplus to Supper and youth group Hanworth Centre Hub. Surplus to Supper is an organization that redistributes and delivers surplus food from the local area, which would otherwise go to waste, to nearby food banks, schools, and other community organizations. Hanworth Centre Hub is one such organization that accepts these deliveries.

On today’s outing, William assisted in loading trays of food into a delivery van and helped prepare meals in the kitchen with chef Mario Confait.

In a video shared to X by ITV royal reporter Lizzie Robinson, William accepted cards on Kate's behalf from Surplus to Supper volunteer Rachel Candappa. “We send our love,” Candappa can be heard saying in the clip. William responds, “You're very kind. Thank you very much.”

Today marks William's first royal engagement since Kate announced the news of her cancer diagnosis in a personal video shared with the public on March 22. William reportedly took time off from work to not only support Kate as she undergoes “preventative chemotherapy” treatment, but to also spend time with their children—Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5—amid their school break, according to People. The couple often limits the amount of royal duties they undertake during their children's vacations from school, the outlet notes.

Kate referenced William's support during her emotional video message last month. “Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance, too,” the royal said, adding, “as is the love, support, and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both.”
